MANILA, PHILIPPINES – The Department of Agriculture (DA) announced that the importation of birds and other poultry products from Michigan, USA are temporarily ban in the Philippines.
This includes domestic and wild birds Affiliated products, including poultry meat, day-old chicks, eggs, and semen.
In a memorandum order released by DA US Chief Veterinary Officer of the World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH) Michigan reported the outbreak of the H5N1 subtype of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza.
According to Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. the decision has immediately released to avoid any possible problem.
The Secretary also emphasize the importance of public safety.
On the other hand, shipments from Michigan that are in transit, loaded, or accepted at ports before the issuance order may be permitted if these were “processed or produced” within 14 days before the initial reported outbreak.
