Manila Philippines — Two separate agreements were signed between the Philippines and Japan, on Friday.
The Phase III of the Maritime Safety Capability Improvement Project (MSCIP) for the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) was first signed between Foreign Affairs Secretary Enrique Manalo and Japanese Ambassador to the Philippines Endo Kazuya.
The third part of the agreement contains the acquisition of five additional units of 97-meter offshore patrol.

The Multi-Role Response Vessels (MRRV) are allotted for the PCG, and it costs JPY 64.38 billion or equivalent of PhP 23.85 billion.
According to Manalo, part of the bilateral relationship between the two countries is the maintenance of maritime safety.
“This occasion signifies not only the deepening of bilateral relations between the Philippines and Japan but also underscores our unwavering commitment to enhance our maritime safety capabilities for the benefit of our nation and the broader maritime community,” said Manalo.

Also signed is the Official Development Assistance (ODA) – a project under the Human Resource Development Scholarship or JDS 2024.
Under the JDS, Japan will provide Filipinos who want to study in Japan with a three-year postgraduate scholarship.
Such an agreement is said to reach JPY 327 Million or PhP 121 Million.
These agreements are contained in the Official Development Assistance for the extension of the relationship between the Philippines and Japan.
