QUEZON CITY — The legal team of Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC) leader Apollo Quiboloy expressed confidence that the child and sexual abuse case filed against him at the Quezon City Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 106 will eventually be dismissed.
Quiboloy’s lawyers attended a hearing on Wednesday, where the pre-marking of evidence was postponed once again.
“It’s not finished. As you know, we have voluminous documents to be marked, so it was reset to another day, but within the month of October,” said Atty. Israelito Torreon, Quiboloy’s legal counsel.
Torreon remains optimistic about an acquittal, citing the dismissal of a similar case by the Davao City Prosecutor’s Office in 2020.
“You have to realize that these cases were already dismissed by the [Davao] City Prosecutor’s office in the past. But these were only revived during the height of the Senate investigation led by Sen. Risa Hontiveros. They have their version, but we have a stronger version that will prove the innocence of Pastor Apollo C. Quiboloy,” Torreon stated.
He added confidently, “Yes. As long as the sun rises in the East, we believe in his innocence.”
The legal camp also speculated on Davao Regional Police Chief PBGen. Nicolas Torre III’s promotion following Quiboloy’s voluntary surrender.
“Maybe it’s already written in the stars for him. Maybe that is his destiny. I’m happy for him. I hope he will do what is best for the country since he is already the head of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group,” Torreon remarked.
The pre-trial for the child and sexual abuse case is scheduled for October 2, while the trial for the qualified human trafficking case is set for October 17.
