Manila, Philippines — Following the celebration of International Day of the Seafafers, House Assistant Minority Leader and Gabriela Women’s Party Representative Arlene D. Brosas urges President Bongbong Marcos Jr. to officially sign the House Bill No. 7325 or The Magna Carta for Seafarers.
This proposed bill includes immediate provision of protection for maritime workers.
“Hindi na dapat patagalin pa ang pagsasabatas ng Magna Carta of Filipino Seafarers na matagal ng panawagan para kilalanin ang mga karapatan at kontribusyon ng mga mandaragat ng bansa, gayundin ang pagbibigay proteksyon sa mga ito sa kanilang trabaho,” Rep. Brosas said.
According to Brosas, it has long been requested to implement the bill in order to give recognition to seafarers for their rights and contributions to the country, as well as providing them job protection.
“The government must implement concrete measures that provide stable employment conditions, protection against unjust termination, and ensure long-term job security for our maritime workers,” she further emphasized.
Furthermore, she reiterated that government should focus on establishing concrete actions to secure the workers’ employment conditions, protection against wrongful dismissal and stability of work security.
The Gabriela party pledge to continuously upholds the Magna Carta, as well as other improvements, once it is signed by the president.
