Manila Philippines — The Philippine Embassy in Athens confirmed that the search and rescue operations for the missing crew of the MV Tutor have been postponed for the time being after the attack by the rebel Houthis.
Through Ambassador Giovanni Palec in Athens, the Department of Migrant Workers said he met with the management of the MV Tutor and said that the search for the missing crew members shall be undertaken once the said ship is brought to safe port.
“Ambassador Giovanni Palec met with the MV Tutor’s shipping principal, who informed Ambassador Palec that search operations for our missing seafarer shall be undertaken as soon as the ship is taken to a safe port,” said DMW in a statement.
There is no confirmation from yet the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) regarding the temporary suspension of search and rescue operations for the missing Filipino aboard of the said cargo vessel.
But the DMW will ensure that their coordination continues with the management of the said cargo vessels, along with its hope that the missing Filipino will be found soon.
“Meanwhile, we remain hopeful and are in touch with the family of the seafarer,” according to DMW Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac.
The owner of the said Cargo Vessel also commits for the safety of the missing Filipino, who is suspected to be trapped in the ship’s engine room.
Yesterday, the 21 Filipino crew members of the MV Tutor returned home.
June 12 when the Houthi rebel group attacked the MV Tutor while it was cruising the Southern part of the Red Sea, and hit by two missiles.
