Manila, Philippines — The number of Filipino families that rated themselves as poor rose again in April, a recent Social Weather Stations survey revealed.
Based on the Stratbase-SWS survey for the month of April, 55% of Filipino families consider themselves as poor—three points higher compared to the March results.
This number is equivalent to 15.5 million Filipino families that believe that they are poor.
Based on the same SWS report, April is the fourth consecutive month of the rise in the self-rated poverty in the country since the start of 2025.
During the month of April, self-rated poverty is recorded highest at Mindanao with 70%, Visayas with 67%, Metro Manila at 47%, which all represented an increase from March’s report.
Self-rated poverty in Balance Luzon fell to 44% in April.
Consequently, Filipino families that considered themselves not poor were recorded at 32%, while 12% said that they were at the borderline—the line between poor and not poor.
The said survey was conducted from April 11 to 15, through face to face interviews with 1,800 Filipino adults nationwide.
