Manila, Philippines – Actress and PBB Big Winner Mika Salamanca is once again at the center of online controversy after her recent post on X (formerly Twitter) about good governance drew both admiration and criticism from netizens.
In her post, Mika wrote: “Alam kong madilim na, pero hindi ito oras para matulog. Panatiliin nating dilat ang ating mga mata hanggang 2028. Kaya ba?”
Many praised the actress for showing social awareness and for speaking out on important national issues.
Supporters lauded her courage, with one comment citing her recent political stance, which affiliated with previous presidential hopeful and former vice president, now Naga City Mayor Leni Robredo, “….she is really using her platform. I love her more.”
Another fan expressed gratitude, commenting, “Thank you, Miks, for using your platform and for standing up for what’s right. We’re with you until the darkness fades.”
But the wave of support was matched by a surge of backlash on X.
Critics accused Mika of being a “hypocrite,” pointing to her known closeness with Kitty Duterte, the daughter of former President Rodrigo Duterte, that has been under scrutiny by a group of public online.
For them, Mika’s call for good governance clashes with her personal ties.
One commenter wrote, “Preaching about good governance when your track record screams the opposite.”
The controversy escalated as netizens began circulating old photos and videos showing Mika with Kitty at private gatherings and parties.
These resurfaced materials fueled the narrative that Mika’s advocacy was inconsistent with her personal relationships.
As of now, Mika has not issued an official statement addressing the criticisms or clarifying her friendship with Kitty Duterte.
Meanwhile, the debate continues online, with her supporters defending her right to speak out regardless of her associations, and critics demanding accountability for what they see as double standards.—Reymon Montero, Contributor
