Manila, Philippines – The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) is set to review certain policies in local governments regarding government funded travel of SK and local government officials.
This comes after an online post circulated showing some members of the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) from Manila in Thailand for “capacity development” and “international benchmarking” activities, which were funded through SK funds.
The said posts received backlash from netizens, who criticized the trips as leisure.
In response, Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla announced that it may be time to review the current policy and determine whether such overseas trips of some LGU officials truly serve a purpose.
The DILG also plans to issue a memorandum circular to clarify the guidelines on the use of public funds for foreign trips of officials.
Meanwhile, Remulla cited his previous term as governor of Cavite, where he did not allow overseas training programs for SK officials.
