US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said these organizations were deemed ineffective, poorly managed, or promoting agendas that conflict with American sovereignty and national interests.

“The Trump Administration has found these institutions to be redundant in their scope, mismanaged, unnecessary, wasteful, poorly run, captured by the interests of actors advancing their own agendas contrary to our own, or a threat to our nation’s sovereignty, freedoms, and general prosperity,” Rubio in an official statement.

One of the most notable withdrawals involve the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, or UNFCCC.

It is a 1992 treaty that forms the backbone of global climate negotiations.

It can be recalled that Trump has repeatedly dismissed climate change as a “scam.”

Climate experts warn that this exit from the convention could slow global efforts to cut greenhouse gas emissions.

They also note that achieving meaningful climate action would be difficult without their participation.

Meanwhile, the administration says additional reviews are ongoing.

With the withdrawals, the US will not continue expending resources and halt its influence in any of their priorities.
