Manila, Philippines – Two weeks have passed since the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) submitted before the Office of the President its 125-day accomplishment report on their operations regarding the investigation on flood control anomalies.
This accomplishment report is expected to be the basis of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. in his decision on whether ICI continues or should it cease its operations.
In a statement on Wednesday, ICI Chairman Andres Reyes Jr. admitted that the Commission cannot go back to its normal operations, like conducting of hearings, given that he is the sole member of the commission in the present.
Despite this, he said that ICI remains functioning, focusing on the ongoing cases under their supervision.
He also assured the public that ICI will continue with its fight against corruption and won’t abandon its duty.
If allowed, he said that ICI would continue the fight whatever it takes.
In response, the Palace clarified that ICI is still working—all while waiting for the President’s review of the commission’s report.
Palace Press Officer and Undersecretary Atty. Claire Castro noted that the review of the accomplishment report is still underway, which may be the President’s basis on its decision for ICI.
Castro explained that the report contains over a thousand pages that cannot be finished almost immediately.
With this, she said that Marcos will eventually need more time to review it, as this is relevant in the talks of ICI’s future.
By this month, Castro said that a report from the President’s office may be expected, but did not guarantee that this will include already the decision for ICI.
With this, she added that ICI is still working with its ongoing cases.
