Democratic Republic of the Congo — Since declaring a Public Health Emergency of International Concern in May, the Center for Disease Control said the Democratic Republic of the Congo has already recorded 2,905 confirmed Ebola cases and 1,269 confirmed deaths as of July 21, 2026.
The outbreak has spread across several provinces, including Haut-Uele, Ituri, North Kivu, South Kivu, and Tshopo.
CDC noted that the outbreak surpassed 1,000 confirmed cases within just 40 days of the emergency response.
Meanwhile, Uganda has reported 20 confirmed cases, including two deaths.
The current outbreak is linked to the Bundibugyo strain of the Ebola virus, a rare variant for which there is still no approved vaccine or specific treatment.
Health experts said early symptoms include fever, muscle pain, headache, and sore throat, which can later progress to severe illness.
