Manila, Philippines – Quezon City 5th District Councilor Aiko Melendez has denied circulating claims that she is planning to form a political tandem with former congressman Mike Defensor for the 2028 elections.
Melendez clarified that no meeting, discussion, or agreement has taken place between her and Defensor regarding any possible political partnership. She stressed that the reports and materials circulating on social media suggesting that they will run together in the upcoming elections are not true.
The councilor also said she has not produced any tarpaulins or campaign materials related to the alleged tandem. According to her, she never gave permission for the creation or distribution of such materials that are currently spreading online.
Melendez further explained that the only mayor she has been consistently communicating with regarding governance and public service in the city is Joy Belmonte. She added that she has personally clarified the misinformation with the mayor.
The councilor also expressed her full support for Belmonte’s leadership, saying it continues to guide the city forward.
Melendez urged the public to be responsible when sharing information and to refrain from spreading or creating materials that could mislead the public.
For now, she said she remains focused on her duties and on continuing to serve the residents of District 5 in Quezon City.
