CICC, DICT WARN PUBLIC VS SPREADING VIOLENT AND DISORDERLY CONTENT ONLINE

Manila, Philippines — The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) and the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) is strictly monitoring all the social media platforms against any online posts that encourage the public to participate in violence that occurred at the Senate last night, May 13.

According to DICT Secretary Henry Aguda, in situations like this, responsible sharing of information online must prevail to not further add the tension, chaos, and worries of Filipinos.

The agency emphasized that there is no place for fake, unverified, and baseless news, as well as AI-generated videos and images being spread across different digital platforms to deceive the public and cause confusion and fear.

The agency warned that those who are found to be spreading false information online about the recent disturbance and shooting incident in the Upper Chamber will face appropriate penalties.

They also remain on alert in monitoring not only social media posts but also possible hacking incidents, especially involving government agencies.

They are also coordinating with authorities whenever they detect posts encouraging the public to gather or engage in activities in a specific area.

They further stated that posts violating the community standards of various digital platforms are immediately being removed by social media platforms.
