Castro said that while extending assistance to those in need is welcome, government agencies should first be given the opportunity to respond. She added that coordinating with the government helps ensure that aid reaches the intended beneficiaries, avoids duplication of assistance, and complements existing government programs. Her remarks prompted mixed reactions from netizens.
Some agreed that coordination can improve transparency and the efficient distribution of aid, especially during disasters and large-scale relief operations. Others argued that private citizens and content creators should still be free to help communities directly, particularly in urgent situations where immediate assistance is needed.
The issue gained additional attention following the 1st FAMAS Broadcast Awards, where veteran broadcast journalist Kara David and actress-vlogger Ivana Alawi tied for the Best Host for Public Service award. As discussions continue, no policy has been announced prohibiting vloggers or private individuals from helping communities.
