New York, USA — Last July, the United States announced a sweeping campaign aimed at curbing the International Criminal Court’s or ICC ability to investigate or prosecute American officials.
It was led by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, which accused the Hague-based tribunal of attempting to place itself above national governments.
And in his UN General Assembly speech this Tuesday, US President Donald Trump voiced out his disdain for the court, seemingly proving that Washington’s campaign is far from over.
President Donald Trump strongly criticized the ICC, referring to it as an “out of control” and “evil group of people.”
He stated that the United States will never permit its service members or any others to be subjected to investigations by a tribunal that has no jurisdiction over the country.
Thus, he called upon all member nations to resign immediately.
It can be recalled that long before the campaign, the Trump administration has repeatedly denounced the court’s arrest warrant for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over his military operation in Gaza.
Recently, the Trump administration has already sanctioned two top ICC members, including the tribunal’s President.
On the other hand, several media says that US has already prepared to sanction the entire ICC, which will be announced soon.
