Washington, USA — More than five months into the conflict, negotiations between the United States and Iran remain stagnant, with both sides still far from reaching an agreement.
Because of the prolonged time, US President Donald Trump is ramping up another pressure on Tehran, announcing what he called “economic warfare and isolation on an unprecedented scale.”
In a post on Truth Social, Trump accused Iran of failing to take an opportunity to reach a deal.
Thus, he called the planned measure the “most crushing economic operation ever taken against any country.”
Trump did not provide specific details on the new penalties Washington would impose.
However, the announcement comes as the United States continues enforcing a naval blockade in the Strait of Hormuz aimed at restricting vessels from leaving Iranian ports as part of its broader economic pressure campaign.
Trump also warned countries and businesses that continue providing a lifeline support to Tehran.
Warning they will face tremendous economic consequences. He did not name any specific country.
On the other hand, Trump again stressed that Iran must never be allowed to acquire a nuclear weapon.
There was no immediate response from Iranian officials, although Iranian media dismissed the latest threat as nothing new.
