Manila, Philippines — Vice President Sara Duterte’s arraignment for the grave threat charges did not proceed at the Quezon City Hall of Justice, September 11, 2026.
According to her camp, the suspension is due to a pending motion for inhibition at the Quezon City RTC and a petition for certiorari at the Supreme Court.
Atty. Paul Lawrence Lim, counsel for Duterte, explained that the motion filed by their camp is currently being studied by the judge.
He also declined to disclose its contents out of respect for the court and due to the sensitive and confidential nature of the merits of the case.
In relation to this, the motion for certiorari and prohibition filed by Duterte’s camp remains pending before the Supreme Court, seeking a temporary restraining order (TRO) and preliminary injunction to prevent and void the charges filed against her.
According to Atty. Antonio Ariel Inton Jr., the motion is a submission by the accused to remove the judge from the case.
He further explained that the judge can reject this and deny the submitted motion.
He added that a petition for certiorari, on the other hand, involves the petitioner questioning the issuance of the warrant.
Meanwhile, the Vice President faced her supporters to deliver a message to them and to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
Her supporters also shared a message for the Vice President, particularly regarding the allegations she is currently facing.—Poliana Canuday, Contributor
