Manila, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Transportation Secretary Banoy Lopez inspected the tunnel boring machine of the Metro Manila Subway Project due to its significant milestone on Wednesday.
During the President’s visit with the DOTr, they looked into the tunnel boring machine that has successfully passed through the other end of the tunnel section.
The southbound tunnel between the North Avenue and Quezon Avenue stations has also been connected
President Marcos Jr. had earlier instructed the Department of Transportation to expedite the construction of major railroad projects.
According to Marcos, this project is one of the most important parts of the city, especially for the residents living near the subway.
In addition, Secretary Lopez said that the said railroad project is one of the solutions to reduce the ongoing traffic in the city and neighboring provinces, as it may also encourage private vehicle owners to use public transportation such as the subway.
Contract Package 102 of the MMSP consists of Quezon Avenue and East Avenue stations, as well as the pathway connecting North to Quezon Avenue, and Quezon to East Avenue Station.
With funding from the Japan International Cooperation Agency, the 33-kilometer and 17-station MMSP is expected to serve approximately 519,000 passengers daily in its opening year.
When fully utilized by commuters, the travel time between Valenzuela City and Ninoy Aquino International Airport is expected to be just 41 minutes, compared to the usual one and a half hours.—Aliyah Nono, Eurotv News
