Poland — A priest was killed and four others were injured in a knife attack at a Church abbey in southeastern Poland.
Polish police said they received a report of a man with a knife at the grounds Benedictine Sisters monastery, Thursday night.
The suspect, a 31-year-old man, was arrested at the scene.
According to Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, the suspect is a Ukrainian citizen.
Authorities said the attacker stabbed four men and a woman, wherein three were members of the clergy and two laypeople.
All five victims were taken to hospital, with the priest later dying from his injuries after being confirmed by the authorities.
Reports said the suspect had entered Poland from Germany and was heading toward the Ukrainian border before ending up at the abbey.
He allegedly took the knife from the abbey’s kitchen.
Authorities have not established a motive for the attack.
Meanwhile, a small memorial is placed outside the entrance of the said abbey.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy extended his condolences to the families of the victims.
He also condemned the crimes as horrific and called for the suspect to be held accountable.
