VP SARA TO THE NEXT DEPED SECRETARY: IT DOESN’T HAVE TO BE IN THE LINE OF EDUCATION

Manila Philippines — Vice President Sara Duterte claimed that the next secretary of the Department of Education (DepEd) does not have to come from the education sector.

This is contrary to the call of Teacher’s Dignity Coalition (TDC) following her resignation as education secretary.

For TDC, the next secretary must be non-political and should come from the field of education to understand the problem faced by the sector.

Despite this, the vice president emphasized that being the secretary of the department is about “trust” and “confidence”.

She also insisted that there are no stated requirements to become education secretary.

As she claimed, not all education secretaries in the South East Asia are from the line of education.

As of this moment, Duterte still has no idea who will be appointed by President Ferdinand “BongBong” Marcos Jr. as the next DepEd secretary upon her resignation effective on July 19.
