THAILAND SUPPORTS PH IN RESOLVING WPS DISPUTES THROUGH PEACEFUL DIALOGUE

Manila Philippines – The Thai government has expressed support for the Philippines to resolve the issue in the South China Sea through peaceful dialogues.

This is what the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand His Excellency Maris Sangiampongsa asserted during his visit to the Philippines.

According to Sangiampongsa, Thailand supports the Philippines’ desire to resolve the conflict in the West Philippine Sea peacefully and anchored on the international rules-based order.

Foreign Affairs Secretary Enrique Manalo opened the discussions in the West Philippine Sea and said that the Philippines will continue to comply with the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) and the final decision of the 2016 Arbitral Binding.

“I conveyed Thailand support for peaceful solutions through dialogue and diplomacy and express our readiness to work with all relevant parties to maintain peace and stability in the South China Sea, and promote win-win cooperations in accordance with international law,” Manalo said.

Foreign Minister Sangiampongsa’s visit to the Philippines marked historic, as it is his first official visit to the country since being appointed to the post, and amid the commemoration of the 75th anniversary of friendship between the Philippines and Thailand.

Apart from the South China Sea issue, the official from Thailand insisted the interests of two countries when it comes to the issue of Myanmar and the war in Gaza.

The two countries also expressed their desire and call for the release of hostages in the Gaza Strip and the provision of humanitarian aids to Myanmar.

When it comes to the issue of the management of the Ayungin Shoal, Manalo said that the dialogue between Beijing and Manila continues in order to resolve the issue in a more peaceful and lawful manner in the region.

“Many of the issues were discussed. And as I said, we made progress,” the secretary adds.

The Bilateral Consultation Mechanism on the South China Sea between the Philippines and China were being discussed few days ago, as both countries expressed the perspective and position to the highly disputed territory.
