MANILA, Philippines — The combined effects of a low pressure area (LPA) off Samar and the southwest monsoon, or “habagat,” will bring isolated and scattered rain showers across much of the Philippines, the state weather agency reported on Thursday.
Weather forecaster Aldczar Aurelio from the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) stated that, based on data and analysis, the LPA, located near Catbalogan in Samar, has a slim chance of developing into a tropical depression.
“But this LPA, along with the southwest monsoon, would continue to affect many parts of the country, particularly Visayas, Bicol Region, Caraga, Marinduque, and Romblon,” said Aurelio.
The LPA’s trough is also impacting Cagayan, Isabela, Quirino, Aurora, Bulacan, Laguna, Rizal, and Quezon, where overcast skies with scattered downpours are expected, according to Pagasa.
The habagat is similarly bringing rainy weather conditions to Metro Manila, Bataan, Zamboanga Peninsula, BARMM (Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao), Northern Mindanao, and the rest of Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon) and Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan), the weather bureau added.
