MANILA — The lawyer representing former Negros Oriental 3rd District representative Arnolfo Teves Jr. has announced that they have filed an appeal with the Timor Leste Court of Appeals seeking to reverse its extradition decision.
Attorney Ferdinand Topacio stated that the appeal was submitted last Friday.
“The Prosecutor-General of Timor Leste has 30 days to respond to the appeal,” Topacio said.
Topacio also mentioned that they have filed two additional motions before the court.
“There are also several other appeals concerning various other incidents,” he added.
The Department of Justice (DOJ) initiated the extradition process for Teves so he can face multiple murder charges related to the killing of Governor Roel Degamo and nine others.
The DOJ had previously expressed confidence that Teves would return to the country in July following a favorable extradition ruling in Timor Leste.
Teves was released from house arrest in Timor Leste late last month.
