KATSEYE ‘Excited’ for Upcoming Visit to the Philippines

Rising multinational girl group KATSEYE is eagerly looking forward to their trip to the Philippines this month, excited to connect with their growing local fanbase.

The six-member group, which includes Filipino artist Sophia Laforteza, will be in the Philippines from September 17 to 19 as part of their Asian tour.

“We’re excited to come to the Philippines, like we’ve been waiting for this moment,” Sophia shared in an interview with ABS-CBN News.

“I told the girls they’re (fans) gonna be harmonizing to our songs,” added Sophia, who is the daughter of singer-actress Carla Guevara-Laforteza.

Sophia is also eager to introduce her fellow members—who come from the United States, South Korea, and Switzerland—to Filipino cuisine.

“We’re gonna have lechon, sinigang, adobo, halo-halo, taho, and even balut—everything,” she said.

KATSEYE, which debuted in June with their single “Debut” from the EP “SIS (Soft IS Strong),” was formed through the talent competition show The Debut: Dream Academy. Managed by South Korean company HYBE and American label Geffen Records, the group’s creation was also featured in the Netflix docu-series Pop Star Academy: KATSEYE.

Reflecting on the documentary, Sophia said, “I feel like the documentary was a full-on time travel experience. It’s crazy ’cause we were all babies [then]. But seeing where we are now, it’s been such a beautiful journey.”

Another member, Daniela from the U.S., expressed her surprise at the success of their song “Touch,” which has gone viral with a dance challenge on social media.

“It’s so crazy, I never thought so many people would be dancing to our songs and singing our lyrics. It’s weird but I’m so grateful,” she shared.
