P-pop Star to Join K-pop Survival Show ‘Universe League’

A Filipino pop star is gearing up to compete in the South Korean talent show Universe League, which aims to form a new boy band.

In a post on its official X account, Korean broadcaster SBS revealed that JL, a member of the P-pop boy band PLUUS, will be joining the competition.

PLUUS took to social media to encourage fans, saying, “Show your support to our dearest JL.”

JL is one of 42 contestants on the show, and the sole Filipino participant, competing alongside contestants from South Korea, China, Japan, and Thailand.

Universe League also released a teaser trailer on its YouTube channel, giving fans a glimpse of the competitors. The show is set to premiere on November 22.

This series serves as the male counterpart and second season of Universe Ticket, the show responsible for creating the K-pop girl group UNIS, which includes Filipinos Elisia Parmisano and Gehlee Dangca, as well as Korean-Filipino Jin Hyeon-ju.

JL made his debut in 2023 as part of the six-member group PLUUS under SBTown.
