“One of my biggest dreams is coming true!”
Apart from winning an Olympic medal for the country, Philippine pole vault star Ernest John (EJ) Obiena expressed his joy on Instagram, November 11, sharing that his dream of establishing a pole vault facility in the Philippines is finally coming true.
Obiena’s dream came from an inspiration, showcasing the talent and dedication of Filipinos. He believed pole vaulting, an applicable Olympic sport, is one that Filipinos should embrace, and with proper facilities, they can achieve global competitiveness year after year and to become a “global force”.
“To be honest I have an even bigger dream in vaulting than medal. I believe this is an Olympic sport Filipinos can excel in. We can be globally competitive year after year,” the 28-year-old ace said.
However, Obiena emphasized that his dream extends beyond himself, aiming to inspire future generations for years to come.
“My dream is, the Philippines being a global force in pole vault doesn’t end with me. It continues on for generations to follow. And I can help make this happen by raising money for new facilities in the provinces,” he added.
Following, Obiena also shared that he will grace the ribbon-cutting event at November 22, 4:00 p.m. at Marcos Stadium, Laoag City, Ilocos Norte.
“I shall fly in to kick start this event, the first of many new facilities I aim to build for our children and our future in the sport,” the 2024 Paris Olympian said.
Meanwhile, a coaching clinic and pole vault seminar will be held after, aiming to “create a sustainable program for the region,” he added.
