Parañaque, Philippines – After Donald Trump was reelected as President of the United States, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. expressed optimism that the relationship between the Philippines and the U.S. will remain strong.
“I don’t think it will change,” PBBM expressed upon press inquires about the ties between the two country on Monday night, November 11, at the Seatrade Cruise Asia at Okada Manila in Parañaque.
“You know, the global forces that are – and you know, they are our oldest treaty – treaty partner, that doesn’t change,” he added.
Afterward, Marcos believed that changes in US administration wouldn’t affect a “major change” in diplomatic relations.
“I will have to see if there is a major change, but I don’t think so. I don’t think so,” he added.
On November 6, President Marcos congratulated Donald Trump on his presidential victory, expressing hopes for an “unshakeable alliance” between the Philippines and the United States.
He stated his eagerness to collaborate with Trump on a “wide range of issues” that would benefit both nations, which share deep ties, common values, and a long history of partnership.
“I am hopeful that this unshakeable alliance, tested in war and peace, will be a force for good, blazing a path of prosperity and amity in the region and on both sides of the Pacific,” the President added.
The Philippines and the U.S. maintain strong cooperation in different areas: defense and security, trade and investment, food and energy security, and humanitarian assistance.
