San Rafael, Bulacan etched its name in history by breaking the Guinness World Record for the “Largest Gathering of People Dressed as Angels” on December 14, 2024.
The town gathered 2,000 participants at the Victory Coliseum, surpassing the previous record of 1,275 set by the Misericordia Health Centre Foundation in Canada year 2015.
Participants, including students, seniors, barangay officials, and local leaders, wore angel costumes complete with white robes, halos, and wings.
Guinness adjudicator Kazuyoshi Kirimura officially validated the count and handed over the Guinness certificate to San Rafael Mayor Cholo Violago, marking the historic feat.
It was overseen by 50 experts who ensured accuracy in counting and compliance with Guinness guidelines.
Inspired by the town’s annual “Angel Festival,” held annually every September 29, it honors their patron saint, Saint Raphael.
Violago led the five-month preparation, covering all expenses, including costumes.
“Tunay na nagmarka tayo ng kasaysayan sa ating mahal na bayan, at sa buong mundo,” said Violago.
The attempt was part of the town’s effort to promote local culture and tourism.
