“On the fourth day of the filing period, we now have 58 senatorial aspirants and 50 party-list groups,” said Comelec Chairperson George Erwin Garcia in a media briefing.
On previous days, the filing saw 17 senatorial aspirants and 11 party-list groups on Day 1, 10 senatorial aspirants and 11 party-list groups on Day 2, and 12 senatorial aspirants and nine party-list groups on Day 3.
Garcia noted that, despite the 160 accredited party-list groups expected to file their CONA, the current turnout remains low.
“As of today, the numbers are still slow, considering that we are expecting 160 party-list groups to file,” Garcia stated.
He also remarked that historically, over 100 candidates usually file for the Senate.
“Based on our history, more than 100 individuals typically file for the Senate,” Garcia added.
He reported that no election-related violence or untoward incidents occurred on Day 4.
“For the entire day, according to reports from the operations center, no incidents of election-related violence or untoward events were reported nationwide,” Garcia said.
He hopes the remaining four days of the filing period will continue to be orderly and peaceful.
