Cebu City, Philippines — Central Visayas reported the continuously increasing of Dengue cases in the province, despite the hot weather that is experiencing across the country.
According to the Department of Health-Central Visayas Communicable Disease more than 7,000 cases have been recorded in the first quarter of 2024.
In the press conference held with “Dengue Awareness Month/ASEAN Dengue Day” Dr. Ronald Jarvik Buscato said that the region recorded 6,968 cases of dengue with 18 deaths between January and June.
According to Buscato, the increase rate is 95 percent higher compared to the same period last year. He attributed the increased cases of dengue to the customary storage of water in the midst of drought, which has been the cause of dengue mosquitoes instant breeding sites.
Buscato urged the residents in the region to implement the 4S strategy which includes Search and destroy breeding sites, Self-protection measures, Seek early consultation and Support fogging/spraying.
The DOH already stated that dengue cases are expected to increase by the rainy season throughout the country. Central Visayas is anticipated to be the fourth most dengue-affected region with high dengue cases.
