DOT PREPS TO ASSIST SOFITEL EMPLOYEES AFFECTED BY CLOSURE

MANILA, PHILIPPINES – The Department of Tourism (DOT) is set to conduct a Job Fair for the affected employees of Sofitel Hotel closure.

During the meeting between the Sofitel Executive and the DOT, several reasons for the closure were discussed, including renovation of some hotel facilities to provide better service, as well as ensuring the safety of their employees.

Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco expressed deep regret over the announcement, since they have been partners in accommodating guests from other countries and their efforts to elevate the status of Philippine tourism.

However, she stated that they understand the management’s decision.

Thank you for all of the contributions that you, and the institution that is Sofitel, have made to the tourism industry, It is one that has seen our country through many seasons, and has stood the test of time” Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco stated in a press release.

“We heard the news with much concern, especially that we view our hotel and accommodation sector as a critical component of the industry, especially now that we are making efforts to elevate the status of Philippine tourism.” she added

Frasco assured that they are prepared to assist the hotel employees who lost jobs, through their NCR office, which will organize a job fair for them.

Meanwhile, the hotel management assured that they are preparing a separation package for their employees, as well as job trainings and seminars as they transition to a new job.

The DOT also pledged to continue supporting Sofitel and its employees in any way possible.

“We want to assure you that we will help you and the employees in any way we can,” the Secretary assured.”

Sofitel is a French Hotel originated in Paris, France owned by Accor.
