Maluku, Indonesia — The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) confirmed that no Filipinos based in Indonesia were injured due to the eruption of Mount Ibu, in the province of Maluku.
Based on information from the Philippine Consulate General from Manado City, the Migrant Workers Office (MWO-SG) said that the authorities from Indonesia themselves confirmed that no foreigners were hurt or even got harmed in the eruption of Mount Ibu.
“Citing dispatches sent by the Philippine Consulate General in Manado City (PCG-Manado), MWO-SG said Indonesian authorities reported no foreigners injured after Mount Ibu on the island of Halmahera erupted violently on the evening of 18 May 2024,” according to the statement of DMW.

Despite this, PCG-Monado continues to coordinate for the safety and condition of the 550 Indonesian-based OFW, particularly in the affected region.
The Vulcanological Survey of Indonesia has raised Mount Ibu on a high alert level since May 16, due to the following dangerous volcanic activity this month.
The authorities have already evacuated residents in seven communities near the volcano, and prohibited approaching within seven kilometers near the volvano.
Mount Ibu is one of the most active volcanoes in Indonesia, while it has 120 active volcanoes.
