PAKISTAN CONDEMNS ATTACK OF HOUTHI ON SAUDI ARABIA

Pakistan has strongly condemned the latest attacks against Saudi Arabia carried out by the Iran-backed Houthi group in Yemen.

In a post on his X account, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned what he described as blatant attacks against Saudi, saying they violated the nations sovereignty and territorial integrity, and could further undermine regional peace and stability.

On Monday, the Houthi group launched ballistic missiles and drones toward Saudi Arabia in what has been described as its worst attack in several years.

The Houthis said they targeted Abha Airport in southwestern Saudi Arabia. This came after the group accused Saudi Arabia of carrying out airstrikes on Sanaa International Airport in Yemen in an attempt to prevent an Iranian aircraft from landing.

The Houthis are a military, political, and religious movement based in northern Yemen. Saudi Arabia previously led a coalition of Arab states in a military campaign aimed at pushing the group out of power.

After years of conflict, the United Nations brokered a truce between the opposing sides in Yemen in 2022.

Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering support for Saudi Arabia’s security and said Islamabad would continue backing efforts to promote peace, stability, security, and mutual understanding across the region.

Pakistan and Saudi Arabia are in close relationship. In September last year, two nations signed a NATO-style defense pact.
