Manila, Philippines — The remains of Kuwait Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) Jenny Alvarado have finally arrived home in the Philippines on January 16, days after a wrong cadaver was delivered to her family.
The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) led the repatriation of her remains, assisting Alvarado’s family as they receive her remains that were transported from Kuwait and arrived in the country around 5:20 p.m. on Thursday.
Following this, DMW and the Overseas Workers Welfare Adminisration (OWWA) assured to provide the bereaved family all the necessary assistance, including the funeral services and other forms of support.
Cacdac also confirmed that Alvarado’s family has accepted the agency’s explanation as to why a different cadaver was delivered to them on January 10.
He noted that the agency are now conducting investigations to the service provider that was responsible for the mix-up, ensuring to hold accountable those involved in the negligence.
“Our lawyer is still on the ground. I’ve been apprised about the applicable Kuwaiti law, and yes, we are moving ahead with the filing of claims against whoever, hindi ko muna papangalanan pa kung sino, but whoever caused the mistake or the error,” Cacdac said.
INVESTIGATIONS UP FOR ‘FOUL PLAY’
Meanwhile, DMW is now looking into a possible foul play regarding Alvarado’s death.
According to her employer, the Pinay OFW, along with her two co-workers, died from coal suffocation after inhaling smoke from a heating system at the workplace.
DMW said that they are now validating these reports as to know what have really caused the death of the OFW aside from the “cardiac arrest” indicated in her death certificate.
Cacdac noted that the absence of an autopsy in Kuwait have prompted the Philippine government to conduct their own investigation regarding the matter.
“The possibility of foul play is always present. That’s why the government is conducting its own autopsy,” he emphasized.
Alvarado’s family has agreed to conduct an autopsy on her remains, and the findings of the National Bureau of Investigations (NBI) about the potential foul play are expected to be released over the weekend.
