MANILA — Content creator and businesswoman Rosemarie Tan Pamulaklakin, popularly known as Rosmar Tan, has officially entered the race for a seat in Manila’s city council for the 2025 elections.
Pamulaklakin, a multimillionaire vlogger known for her beauty product business, submitted her certificate of candidacy on Tuesday, aiming for a councilor position in Manila’s first district.
Initially hesitant to run due to the pressures of politics, Pamulaklakin shared that she was persuaded by friends and supporters who encouraged her to pursue a role in public service.
“May nag-push po sa’kin na, ‘Tumakbo ka kasi kailangan ka ng tao, kasi kailangan nila ng tunay na pagbabago’,” she stated.
She further explained, “Nakumbinse po nila ako dahil sabi mas marami akong matutulungan kapag nakaposisyon, so ‘yon lang ang bagay na nagpa-oo sa akin.” (They convinced me by saying I could help more people when I’m in a position of power, and that’s what led me to say ‘yes’ to running.)
Running as an independent candidate, this marks her second foray into politics, following her 2022 run in Manila’s fourth district where she placed 20th. At the time, she noted, her campaign was limited as she was pregnant with her first child.
While acknowledging that she lacks a formal legal or academic background in governance, Pamulaklakin expressed confidence in her ability to serve the people. She assured voters they would see a more serious side of her compared to the playful persona she displays on her vlogs.
Earlier this year, Pamulaklakin, alongside fellow influencer Rendon Labador, found themselves in controversy following viral comments about Coron, Palawan, which led to both being declared persona non grata by the town.
“‘Yong Rosmar sa social media at Rosmar sa totoong buhay ay magkaiba po… At hindi doon natatapos ang pagiging politiko,” she said, emphasizing the distinction between her online persona and her real-life capabilities.
Among her proposed initiatives, if elected, is a program to provide maintenance medication for senior citizens who cannot afford them.
