2 SUSTAINED HEAD TRAUMA, 57 INJURED IN ARGENTINA’S TRAIN CRASH

BUENOS AIRES, ARGENTINA–Nearly 60 individuals were sent to the hospital following the crash of a passenger train into a maintenance train in Buenos Aires on May 10, 2024.

Argentinian Trains reported that around 10:30 am of Friday, a seven-car passenger train of the San Martin line collided into a locomotive and an empty maintenance train, 4900 kilometers on the Palermo viaduct.

In a statement, state-owned Trenes Argentinos (TA) Railway Company said that upon investigations, the locomotive van and the first passenger train car derailed which resulted to at least 60 individuals that sustained various injuries.

Among the total 57 individuals sent to the hospital after the incident, two victims sustained serious and major head trauma, while most of the injured were discharged by Friday evening.

Transport Minister Franco Mogetta said that there were “multiple hypotheses” about the reason behind the incident, saying that something had gone wrong with the signaling system.

While the investigations are still on-going, the removal operations for those that had been impacted by the collision already begun on Saturday.
