Manila, Philippines — The Philippine Statistics Authority reported that by July 1, 2024, the estimated population in the Philippines has reached over 112.7 million.
While it has likely increased since then, 9.2 million of the population consider themselves poor.
Based on the 1st Quarter Tugon ng Masa Survey of OCTA Research, 35% of Filipino households rated themselves poor—slightly lower than the 37% last December 2025.
OCTA noted that the slight decrease may imply a moderate improvement on the economic condiotions of he country, but it has no significant difference as well.
The Highest self-rated poverty is recorded in Mindanao with 56%, followed by Visayas at 44%, 25% in Balance Luzon, and 21% in Metro Manila.
24% said they are “not poor” while 41% were neutral.
On the other hand, the same survey reported 31% or over 8.1 million Filipino households that considered themselves food poor, higher than last year’s record.—Mia Layaguin, Eurotv News
