Manila, Philippines – Even without the signature of the President, the Konekatdong Pinoy bill officially lapsed into law on Sunday.
Malacañang and the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) announced the lapsing into law of the bill seeking to expand internet access across the archipelago and expand opportunities and competition among service providers.
The law aims to accelerate rollout of internet services across the nation, particularly in teh remote areas, that will benefit various sectors like education, health, and others,
The law also includes the streamlining of licensing procedures, allowing infrastructure sharing, and removing franchise requirements to new service providers.
DICT hailed the lapsing of this law and highlighted that this is an attempt of the government to build networks and build more opportunities for Filipinos.
“By making internet access truly universal, we are creating a foundation for better education, e-commerce growth, accessible government services, and stronger communities. The President’s vision is clear: no Filipino should be left behind in the digital age,” DICT Sec. Henry Aguda said.
Following this, DICT said that they will immediately convene the stakeholders to draft the implementing rules and regulations, further expressing commitment to achieve the goals of the law as soon as possible.—Mia Layaguin, Eurotv News
