Manila, Philippines – Several lawmakers have criticized President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s decision to remove Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Gen. Nicolas Torre III from his post.
In a statement released by the Office of the President signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, it was stated that the Palace relieved Torre as PNP chief.
Although the Palace did not provide a statement on the reason for Torre’s removal, several lawmakers criticized the president’s decision.
According to House Deputy Minority Leader and ACT Teachers Partylist Representative Antonio Tinio, this is proof that there is a conflict in the administration.
The lawmaker further stressed that this is due to the competition for positions between different groups in the midst of the problems facing the country, such as serious corruption, and lack of social services and poverty.
For the Kabataan partylist, this is a reflection of the conflict between factions under the authoritarian government.
According to Mamamayang Liberal Representative Leila Del Lima, there is a reason to remove a PNP Chief from his post.
For Senator Ronald Bato Dela Rosa, this just shows that there is no forever.
