Manila, Philippines – A police officer and a security guard were involved in a shooting incident late Tuesday night, October 14, along Roman Superhighway in Barangay Capitangan, Abucay, Bataan.
Initial investigation showed that a heated confrontation between the two at the BYD Bataan Warehouse resulting in an exchange of gunfire, injuring the security guard in the left knee.
The police officer, assigned to the Bagac Municipal Police Station, fled to a nearby 7-Eleven store after the incident. Authorities clarified that no hostage situation occurred.
Personnel from the Bataan Police Provincial Office, led by Provincial Director Police Colonel (PCOL) Marites A. Salvadora, together with Abucay Municipal Police Station (MPS) and the 1st PMFC, responded quickly and successfully negotiated the officer’s peaceful surrender around 12:20 a.m. on October 15.
Recovered from the scene were two handguns, a caliber 9mm Glock pistol, issued by the Philippine National Police (PNP), loaded with six live ammunition, and a caliber 9mm M1911 pistol used by the security guard along with three 9mm live ammunition and pieces of fired slugs.
The officer is now in police custody for investigation, while the security guard is being treated at Bataan General Hospital.
The Bataan Police Provincial Office assured the public that the case is under investigation and that appropriate disciplinary actions will be taken in accordance with PNP regulations.
