Bangkok, Thailand – A wanted Chinese-born gambling tycoon arrested in Thailand has been successfully turned over to China on Wednesday.
The suspect, 43-year-old She Zhijiang, who holds a Cambodian passport, was jailed in Bangkok in 2022 under an Interpol red notice requested by Beijing.
The decision was upheld this week after a Thailand court dismissed the appeal filed by She’s legal team in 2024 opposing his extradition to China.
China accused She of running illegal online gambling operations and money laundering activities across Southeast Asia.
He reportedly headed a $15-billion casino and entertainment complex along the Thai-Myanmar border, identified as a major hub for online scams and human trafficking.
He was also accused of founding and operating more than 200 illegal gambling websites.
She will now face trial in China for these alleged offenses.
Chinese authorities thanked Thailand for its cooperation and vowed to strengthen bilateral efforts to combat such crimes across the region.
She Zhijiang also self-confessed that he is a Chinese spy in a documentary released by Al Jazeera last year, wherein he spilled controversial former Bamban City, Tarlac Philippines Mayor Alice Guo as a spy also.
