Manila, Philippines – Nine local government units (LGUs) in Metro Manila have formally partnered with the Department of Energy (DOE) to strengthen the implementation of energy efficiency measures and the use of renewable energy in public offices.
During the signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) on Monday, November 17, 2025, the cities of Pasig, Taguig, Quezon City, Manila, San Juan, Valenzuela, Mandaluyong, Pasay, and Navotas signed on as DOE partners in promoting more economical and modern energy practices within local governments.
Under the agreement, the LGUs will intensify the installation of solar photovoltaic systems in government buildings, use energy-efficient lights and appliances, and adopt other measures that will help minimize excessive electricity consumption.
According to the DOE, these initiatives are expected not only to improve the delivery of public services but also to significantly reduce operational costs for the LGUs. The savings generated may then be redirected toward essential programs and projects that will benefit more residents.
This initiative aligns with the President’s directive for the government sector to serve as a model of prudent use of public funds and the adoption of modern energy technologies.
