Manila, Philippines – The government has safely evacuated eleven Filipinos from Iran, with the coordination of the country’s embassy in Tehran, to Van Turkey, amid the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
According to the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), the OFWs are scheduled to return home from Turkey in the coming days.
The DFA thanked the governments of Iran and Turkey for assisting the safe passage of the Filipinos.
The DFA is also ready to assist approximately 800 Filipinos in Iran who have requested to be repatriated to the Philippines.
Meanwhile, approximately 90 OFWs from the United Arab Emirates have also been repatriated.
The Filipinos have been provided with financial assistance through the DMW Aksyun Fund and other forms of assistance to Filipinos.
According to DMW Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac, they continue to offer OFWs pre-repatriation assistance due to the unrest in the Middle East.
Almost 300 Filipinos from the Middle East were initially repatriated, part of the nearly 1,500 OFWs who requested to be evacuated.
After the DMW staff in Bahrain rejected OFWs who went to the Philippine embassy seeking for assistance, the officials were dismissed from their posts.—Alvin Pelobello, Eurotv News
