COMELEC PROCLAIMS BONG ACOP AS ANTIPOLO CITY 2ND DISTRICT REPRESESNTATIVE

Manila, Philippines – Dr. Philip Conrad “Dok Bong” Acop has been officially proclaimed by the Board of Canvassers of the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) as the new member of the House of Representatives.

He will represent the 2nd Congressional District of Antipolo City, replacing his father, Congressman Romeo Acop, who passed away in December last year.

The proclamation followed the Special Election held in the district on March 14, conducted by the COMELEC.

Acop was proclaimed the winner after receiving the highest number of votes among the six candidates.

According to the commission, out of 252,793 registered voters in the eight barangays of the city’s second district, 84,367 voters personally cast their ballots in the special election, equivalent to a 33.37% voter turnout.

This number includes 184 Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL) at the BJMP Antipolo City Police Station who also participated in the voting.

In the final tally, Acop received 60,051 votes, followed by Tapales with 10,080 votes, Llagas with 12,054 votes, Lobigas with 754 votes, Infante with 412 votes, and Cafirma with 199 votes.

According to COMELEC Chairperson George Erwin Garcia, they did not record any untoward incident in the 38 voting centers across the district during the conduct of the election and the delivery of election paraphernalia for canvassing.

He also said that the early voting hours from 5:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. were properly implemented for senior citizens, pregnant women, and persons with disabilities (PWDs).

During the canvassing on March 14, teachers and other poll workers who served as electoral board members also received their honoraria.

Meanwhile, in a separate post, Congressman Acop assured the public that he would represent the second district of Antipolo with integrity, compassion, and dedicated service.

He also stated that he would focus on programs related to education, employment, health, livelihood, and infrastructure, as well as providing solutions to problems faced by communities.
