Manila, Philippines – The Philippine government hopes that the two-week ceasefire between the United States and Iran will result in a permanent end to the conflict and lasting peace.
According to a statement from the Philippine foreign affairs, Manila welcomes the US-Iran peace talks, facilitated by Pakistan.
Despite the two-week ceasefire announced by US President Donald Trump, attacks in the Middle East continue.
An estimated 250 people were killed while more than 1,000 were injured after Tel Aviv attacked Lebanon.
The DFA confirmed that they are coordinating with the Philippine Embassy in Beirut to see if any Filipinos are among those affected by the most recent attack.
According to the DFA, there are about 14,000 Filipinos based in Lebanon, most of whom are workers.
The DFA said that many lives have already been lost due to the war and has caused damage to civilians, including economic infrastructure, and the global economy.
During the commemoration of the 84th anniversary of the Day of Valor, the president assured that the government is doing everything possible to alleviate the impact of the war in the Middle East on the public.
He said that although the Philippines is far from the center of the conflict, Filipinos are still affected, particularly with the soaring prices of petroleum products in the country.
The Department of Economy, Planning and Development (DepDev) warned on Wednesday that between 200,000 and 340,000 Filipinos abroad could lose their jobs due to the conflict in the Gulf nation.—Alvin Pelobello, Eurotv News
