CHINESE FORCES FIRED FLARES DIRECTLY AT PCG AIRCRAFT IN WPS

Manila, Philippines – Chinese forces fired flares directly at a Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) aircraft in the West Philippine Sea.

According to a statement by PCG Spokesperson for the West Philippine Sea Rear Admiral Jay Tarriela, the clear bullying by China occurred on Thursday, during the Maritime Domain Awareness of PCG personnel in the Kalayaan Island Group.

This allegedly occurred particularly in the Panganiban reef and Zamora Reef areas.

According to the official, China’s reckless and aggressive action shows an increase in their campaign to intimidate and harass the PCG.

This actions are clearly a violation against international aviation safety and the spirit of regional peace and is imposing danger to the PCG personnel on board.

The PCG also made a radio transmission during the incident, to assert Philippine sovereignty over Beijing’s illegal claims and the construction of their military bases in the West Philippine Sea.

The Chinese embassy in Manila has not yet made a statement regarding this.

The PCG also activated its district command in the Kalayaan Island Group on Thursday.
According to Tarriela, the command plays as an asset to the Philippines when it comes to the deployment of PCG personnel to the KIG, while ensuring support to the needs of residents in Pagasa Island.–Alvin Pelobello, Eurotv News
