PH GOV’T WILL RAMP UP RENEWABLE ENERGY TO ADDRESS LONG TERM IMPACT OF MIDDLE EAST CONFLICT

Manila, Philippines – The government will strengthen the use of renewable energy, amid the crisis caused by the conflict in the Middle East.

This was emphasized by Palace Press Officer and Undersecretary Claire Castro in a briefing on Monday.

Castro said that the government has long been studying the strengthening of renewable energy in the country, which is a possible source of alternative petroleum products, amid the oil crisis caused by the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

The president has not yet made a final decision on whether to reduce the fuel excise tax, following the enactment of RA 12316 which seeks to authorize the president to suspend and reduce the Excise tax on petroleum products.

Meanwhile, the President announced on Sunday a bigtime fuel price rollback today, Tuesday.

The rollback is more than P20 per liter of diesel, P4.43 centavos per liter of gasoline, while the cut is P8.50 per liter of kerosene.

The Department of Energy had earlier said that diesel prices would drop by more than 20 cents per liter this week.
On Saturday, the DOE confirmed that an additional 52 million liters of diesel had arrived from Malaysia.–Alvin Pelobello, Eurotv News
