Manila, Philippines – Senate President Win Gatchalian has once again called for prohibiting minors to access social media, pertaining to sixteen years old and below, following the shooting incident of two students in Tacloban City.
On Tuesday, the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) imposed a temporary ban on the mobile game GoreBox – an application that allows players to experiment with different weapons, and also because of the graphic depictions of violence.
Because of this, Gatchalian once again recalled his proposed bill to ban minors from using social media.
According to the senator, this is because many young people are used to be addicted to social media and games with violent contents that are said to have influenced the mental health of minors.
According to a statement by the CICC, the ban on the said mobile game follows an investigation which revealed that one of the student suspects involved in the shooting was an avid player on an online games.
The temporary ban on Gorebox will remain in place as a precautionary measure while the investigation continues.
