STA. ROSA, Laguna — Amid rainy weather, workers of San Miguel Integrated Logistics Services Inc. (SMILSI) staged a protest outside San Miguel Corporation (SMC) today, July 29.
The protest stemmed from a sudden mass layoff of approximately 800 workers on July 6, 2026.
Carrying their demands for job security, union rights, and fair wages, the workers continued their mobilization to call out management’s failure to hear their grievances.
SMILSI workers also stated that they will continue to fight as long as Ramon Ang, chairman and CEO of SMC, and the entire management of SMILSI, remain deaf and unresponsive to their concerns.
Meanwhile, the Makabayan bloc—led by ACT Teachers Party-list Representative Antonio Tinio, KABATAAN Party-list Representative Renee Co, and Gabriela Women’s Party-list Representative Sarah Elago—together with the workers of SMILSI, has already filed House Resolution No. 1228 last July 28, which aims to investigate the said mass layoff. — Shey Valino, Contributor
