Former Philippine National Police and Metro Manila Development Authority General Manager Nicolas Torre III stood firm in defending Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Claire Castro statement regarding certain teachers who allegedly set a bad example for students, following a shooting incident inside a school in Zamboanga City.
That statement drew mixed reactions on social media, including the Viva Film Director Darryl Yap.
Yap cursed Castro, rather than addressing the issue through standard dialogue. The film director also fired back at Torre with heavy profanity on social media.
Torre explained that Castro did not insult the entire teaching profession and that the full context of her statement should be understood before passing judgement.
He drew a parallel criticism often faced by members of the Philippine National Police.
He stated that he took no issue with Castro’s remarks; even he—holding a Master of Arts in Education (MAEd) degree—was not offended, provided the statement was understood correctly.
In his latest social media post, Yap lashed out at Torre and Castro again, claiming they and their trolls were bullying him.
He asserted that neither they nor anyone else could stop him from expressing his opinion, punctuating his statement with more profanity.
Torre questioned whether this was the type of example public figures should set for the youth—where complex arguments are abandoned in favor of raised voices and vulgar language. He also referenced an earlier claim by yap that he had already been reprimanded by Viva Films and advised to stay off Facebook.
Torre believes that the majority of teachers understood the statement and did not take offense at it. – Henry V. Nicolas, Eurotv News
